A Richly Imagined African Fantasy.
Hairston does a superb job introducing readers to an imagined world full of pirates, nomads, and priests. Her story subtly connects with real world challenges such as: power, gender, human responsibility, climate change, and ancestry. This is such a beautiful read with a poetic flow and a lot of queer representation (i.e lovely gay relationships and multiple non-binary characters).
